Traveling With Cremated Remains
Here are a few top tips for traveling with cremated remains, commonly referred to as “ashes,” via commercial airline:
– Cremated remains should be stored in a non-metallic urn so that they can be X-rayed by airline security.
– Place the urn in your carry-on bag rather than in checked luggage. Don’t trust the airline with something so important!
– Carry the cremation permit with you. This document will get you through TSA security. You will be provided with this important document by the funeral home when the cremated remains are released to you.
– If you are transporting the urn to another country, have the funeral home check into the requirements of that country. The funeral home will then provide you with any further documentation that may be required.
